I'm having the ladies over for book club this week so I thought I would make it a little festive and make pumpkin tea lights. It's super easy and I bought the mini pumpkins for $.69 each. Just like a large pumpkin cut a hole in the top the size of a tea light, hallow out the innards (fun) a there you go cute little pumpkin tea lights. I have a few other fun Halloween decorations that I will post when my apartment isn't a disaster from painting my bathroom due to an unfortunate hair dye spillage accident. Check out my cousin's white pumpkins - so cute!

Halloween my favorite holiday! I love dressing up, the excuse to go all out and dress up as something you would never wear and be a total stranger to yourself for a night. For the last 5 years I've done a retro look because let's face it if I could live like a 1950's pin up I would. This year I wanted to be a retro nurse, but I cute authentic (not I need an excuse to dress slutty) nurse. I'm thinking it's not exciting enough....then I remembered watching Rocky Horror Picture show for the first time this past summer and absolutely falling in love with the gaudy costumes and outrageous characters so now I'm thinking I want to be Magenta! Same deal nurse to a french maid but just with a little bit more dark and mysterious. Not sure if I can convince my beastie to be Columbia....even if she gets to wear pure sequins.

My lack of posts is is inexcusable. I have no valid reason except for sheer laziness. I'm working on launching a collaborative blog with my cousin and fellow blogger...i'ts slow to start but we promise to get it going soon. In the meantime here is some photos I've saved from other blogs sites.

I purchased a fantastic gray sweatshirt by Cheap Monday with the intentions of dressing it up for work with necklaces and heels and wearing it causally on the weekend. I'm not sure that my co-workers quite understand the look I'm going for as I was asked if I was going to the gym after work...I'll keep on trying.

I've been meaning to create a vintage frame collage for over my couch...I've been dragging around a huge old frame for a couple of years. I found a few more at the thrift so I decided to spray paint them all the same colour. I still need more frames and pictures but it's an organic display that is coming along....it was easy as pie to spray paint them just make sure to go outside in a well ventilated area and let it dry completely before you move it. I live in an apartment building so I was out in the alley!

My bike, My bike! Seriously this bike is changing my life. There is nothing that brings you back to the carefree childhood summers then cruising around on your bike. I've been riding the seawall, riding to get groceries, riding to the farmers market. It's so much fun! The most wonderful part of my new bike is that my dad found it at a garage sale for $15, fixed it up for me, installed a removable basket, pump and lock. It was so nice of him and a project that we could share together.

I finally got around to painting my bathroom! I took some vacation days to extend the Canada Day holiday and of course true to nature I wasn't going to just sit back and relax...I was going to be productive! It's not all to do's I'm heading off to Saltspring Island for a wonderful 3 night city get away complete with brewery and wine tours!

Always a sucker for clever colour names it was a close choice between "tickled pink" and "bunny nose pink" in the end "tickled pink" won out and now I have a lovely pink bathroom. I'm taking every liberty to be a girly as possible while I live on my own. I think the best part about this ultimate girly colour is the warm soft pink glow it radiates from my bathroom. It's a warm fuzzy.

The thing I love about vintage is the history...the story behind the clothing. I've wanted a army jacket for awhile and although there a trendy piece of clothing right now I couldn't find one that felt authentic. I decided to go right to the source and buy a vintage one. I found this in a shop called Retro Rock Vintage. It's from the United Sates Marine Corp...I'm really not sure how old it is but it keeps on surprising me. I've had it for over a month and the other day I found the name of the person who owned it...can't believe I've never noticed it before!

I couldn't resist picking up a few potted herbs...especially when it's a neat as chocolate mint! It truly smells and tastes like a peppermint patty! Not the best combo with garlic chives but still cool. Now I just need to figure out what to do with all my chocolate mint. I'm thinking of infusing it with vodka...a little mint chocolate martini anyone? I also found this great idea from Martha (oh Martha) where you paint the mint leaves with chocolate and use them as garnish on chocolate cupcakes. I've been resiting baking for the temptation of having decadent treats around my kitchen...but I can't resist it anymore...I made some muffins but can't take full credit I bought a mix. I can take credit for adding the banana and cranberries though!

little sprouts

I guess the old saying a watched pot never boils is true of planting seeds! I decided to get my hands a little dirty the other week and plant myself a little herb garden. I have been eagerly awaiting the first sprouts. I went away for the weekend and I came home to a wonderful surprise! I planted cilantro, parsley and basil...I won't know which is which until they mature a little longer because I forgot to label them. Oh well!

I had the wonderful and honored opportunity to be a part of my cousin's wedding. I was one of six bridesmaid. It was without a doubt the most beautiful wedding I have ever witnessed. Jessica put so much thought into every details and made it a unforgettable night for everyone there. She blogged about her plans and projects for an entire year on beyond blonde and I followed the progress. It was so great to see it all come together so beautifully. There was a postcard worthy sunset in the background as the bride and groom had their first dance as husband and wife.

I forgot my camera! But lucky weddings are usually one of those occasions where everyone has their camera out snapping away. I get to have this gorgeous bouquet of pink peony in my living room as a wonderful reminder of the most amazing day.

I have a thing for mason jars, I'm sure it has something to do with nostalgic memories. I have some very talented women in my family that can - can the ass off of anybody! I get really excited when my aunt sends me jam (apricot, peach & lemon!), pickled beets and her famous zucchini relish which can turn any boring tuna sandwich into a delight. My grandmother cans fresh salmon which when I was unemployed was my saving graze and probably my only source of decent protein! She also makes a wicked antipasto I've been saving a tiny little jar for just the right occasion since Christmas.

I now use my leftover jars for various vestibules all over my apartment; flower vases, paint pots, bathroom organizers, storage for rocks and marbles I just can't part with (makes loveley decoration in floral arangments). I never, ever throw them out. I'm sure my family would hope that I would return them one day but I probally won't. I'm going to try making my own canned goods this summer! I'm thinking I'll start with jam and expand from there.

I've had a huge desire lately to have green stuff around me. I really would love to have a community garden plot but with the scarce availability in the downtown area I'm stuck with my planter boxes and indoor greens.

I planted lavender in my window box, and managed to salvage some rosemary that was in there from last year as well as some ivy and an unidentified purple flower that was too pretty to dig up. I also had a few succulents that were still thriving from last year. I transplanted them into a clay pot with a few new chick & hens that i purchased this year. I had enough left overs to make a mini terrarium. My grandmother had a huge terrarium when I was a kid and I was convinced that little animals lived in their.

I also have a little green "vignette" in my hallway. My Christmas cactus is still alive! I hope it blooms again this Christmas. I'm very excited that it's peony season...I'm heading to Granville Island today so hopefully I can buy some!

I have a fairly large living room so I decided I would have an arts & crafts table! The table is a metal drafting table which has the benefits of moving up and down. I keep my paints, brushes, pencil crayons and markers neatly housed in containers.

I found a book of really pretty floral print wrapping paper and decided to wrap 2 canvases to use as bulletin boards. You will need a fairly sturdy stapler the old fashioned metal kind....funny how they don't make office supplies in the quality they used to! It's as simple as wrapping and stapling. Viola, cute bullitin boards!

No this isn't a plug for beer, but I do enjoy a class of the frosty goodness every once and awhile. It's a plug to read Canadian magazines. The reason i do is because all the stuff in them is usually accessible to you! One of my favorite Canadian fashion magazines if Flare. I love the fact that you can relate to the people in it! Take for instance this blogger from Victoria la flaneuse she's a pretty cool chic.

One of my fav non Canadian mags is Lucky but it irks me that you usually can't buy half of the stuff in there here....but I still read it.

It's difficult to have a personal style blog without a photographer. I haven't been able to post many outfit photos because I can't seem to master the self portrait thing. It was much easier when I had a live-in boyfriend who was also a amateur photographer and enjoyed taking pictures of my outfits. Ok enough of the ohla Cherie pity party and on to the fashion!

I recently attended my fabulous cousin and fellow bloggers bridal shower. It was lovely and traditional with all the ladies wearing pretty frocks. In true classy lady style I wore a triple strand of vintage pearls, and bright pink...and of course some colourful heels. Here's a little montage of the event.

I've decided that the two things I need in my life right now to make it complete is a vintage bike with a wicker basket and a community garden plot. Sounds easy enough but I'm a little too late on the community garden idea as it looks like most gardens in my neighborhood are already full. There are only 5 community gardens in the downtown area. I guess my window box will have to do this summer.

I was home visiting my parents over the weekend and my dad fixed up an amazing vintage bike for my mom. I've posted the "before" picture. He installed a basket and a personalized license plate. Too cute. I took it for a spin and I'm hooked! I'm not sure why it's taken me this long to really want a bike but I really want an authentic vintage one with the chrome fenders, big curved handle bars and seat with the springs. My dad is going to keep his eye out for me...I've also been searching craigslist.

I went a little crazy on F21 the other day. The leopard jacket for $11 got me started and I just kept filling my virtual basket. Free shipping and I got it in 3 days! I was so excited to pick up my package! I love everything...the only disappointment is the the little black boxy jacket is a little snug. I'm a pretty solid size 8 and they said medium was a 9/10. Oh well lesson learned go for large tops next time.

I spent a little time yesterday shopping in Gastown the main destination being the Army & Navy shoe sale. My friend graciously offered to hold the basket while I piled it high with potentials. It's tough to try on heels while standing! I broke a sweat but only ended up with one pair!

I also wandered into one of my favorite shops Nouvelle Nouvelle. They have always carried Cheap Monday jeans but now they have expended into their clothing collection to men. I was really impressed by the Cheap Monday clothing especially the mens stuff. It's a great price point and the shirts are so soft and cozy. I tried on the extra long mens shirt that worked perfect as a shirt dress. And how cute would the plaid shirt roll up the sleeves and pair it with denim shorts?

I'm super excited to be a bridesmaid for my cousins (and fellow blogger beyondblonde) wedding! She has got to be the most DIY bride I have ever met. She has a clear vision of what she wants and she's making it perfect. I can't wait to see it all come together on the big day! She picked the fabric and all the bridesmaid (i think 7 in total!) picked the pattern. I've seen most of the dresses and their gorgeous. The fabric is a pretty blush pinks. She's letting us choose our accessories, hair and make-up. Since my dress (true to Cherie fashion) is a little vintage inspired so I'm using the Spring Dior 2010 collection for my makeup and hair inspiration but with a pink lip not red. Very 1940's film nior glamor. I'm still searching for shoes....but I think this is a lovely start.

Last year a spent a small fortune on a Jentzen two piece swim suit. I love it it's called the Vamp Buttercup bikini. Jantzen is celebrating it's 100th birthday! And to celebrate they brought back the glamorous designs from the 1950's. And if anyone knows me I'm obsessed with anything retro and glamorous for that matter. I decided this year I needed a big wide brimmed hat which I found this weekend at the Le Vie on Rose Aqua store for $20! Now I just need to find the perfect modern take on the the cat eye sunglasses and I will be set to lounge in fabulous retro glamor.

I cringed when the Croc store opened on Robson Street. I pretty much think the only place Crocs belong is in the garden or if you happen to be a medical professional or chef. Pretty much the fugliest think you can put on your feet. I was in Whistler last week and happened to cross by a Croc store...my friend mentioned that Croc makes heels. Seeing is believing, curiosity killed the cat I went where I would swear I would never step foot.

Yes, Croc does make heels. I took my curiosity one step further and tried on a pair! One the surface they look cute and they are definitely comfy. BUT it was the velcro straps that killed it for me. Seriously am I 12 years old? It stuck out and did not look sexy at all.

I think Croc needs to do some serious market research before it tries to step into the fashion foot wear arena. Back to the drawing board I say.

I was looking through my desk the other day and came across some notes I jotted down when i was thinking about my spring/summer 2010 wardrobe. Here is what i wrote:

One mens wear piece with each outfit (I think this was from Who What Wear Daily). The easiest way to do this is to add a chunky mens watch...I have a bronze and gold one. Or add a pocket square to your blazer...i found this pink floral one second hand...it's a little masculine and a little feminine.
Mix stripes with floral. I have a drawer full of stripped shirts, now I'm looking for that perfect flirty floral skirt.
Ankle cut skinny jeans. Gap has a few great pairs. A perfect way to show off your summer sandals
Cargo pants with heels only. I'm short this is the only way I can make cargo's sexy. I bought a great army green pair from the Gap...I just roll up the hem and wear when with my platform ankle boots.
Pastels & nudes. No explanation necessary...but I need to add more of these colours to my wardrobe.
Mix boyfriend tshirt with flirty full skirt.

I technically told myself I didn't have any New Year's resolutions but I did really want to start cooking. I made a pact to try one new recipe a week using fresh ingredients. Funny the only New Year's resolution I've stuck with involves eating. I actually like cooking and I'm actually not that bad at it (I'm now excepting marriage proposals).

Soup is one of my favorites. Hearty and satisfying soups. My new secret recipe (and now yours) is golden tofu soup. Creamy from the coconut milk and flavour full spice it's delicious. I get a ton of great recipes from Chatalaine magazine (no I'm not actually 80 years old). It's a classic Canadian magazine that's been around for 75 years! Check out there recipe section and cook away.

I've been blonde, I've been brown, I've been black but I've never been red! I have a hankering to change my look. Maybe it's spring fever but I just need change. I'm thinking auburn, but I don't want dark brown auburn I want true auburn so I'm sure it will require a lightning...oh my. If I do the colour I should also do a cut. With new hair colour I will also need to adjust my makeup pallet...hmmmm this could be just the change I need!

Oh blog, my old friend who I have neglected for months. I've always wanted to keep my blog in the realm of fashion. In the last 6 months I've had to take a major hiatus from shopping. It's very hard to keep your passion for fashion when you don't dare step foot in a mall. So not only have I felt that I've lost a little of my personal identity but also my passion for writing my blog.

Now if I wanted this to be a dating tips blog I could fill pages, but although every single woman in her 30's with a penchant for shoes thinks she's Carry Bradshaw I've never wanted to try to be that. I will share what I've learned in the last 6 months of single"dumb".

1. Do not under any circumstances read the "Rules" book. It will mess with your mind and you will confuse men.
2. Keep the first date light, casual and short. Go for the wallet grab when the bill comes out of courtesy but if he doesn't offer to pay it's a bad sign, not a deal breaker but not good.
3. Let him call you for date #2...if he doesn't call in 2-3 days he's probably just not that into you. If I guy likes you he will call.
4. If you invite a guy you've been dating for more then 3 dates to your apartment to "make dinner" it means "make out" so only do that if that's what you're prepared to do.

These are by no means rules or guidelines, because ultimately you just need to do what feels right. Because honestly sometimes you end up marrying the drunkest guy you take home from the beer garden....true story, not mine but true.

I have a thing for cutting out and collecting bits and pieces of inspiring pictures and stories and such and creating smattering of collages. I think this steams from my childhood. Apparently my Kindergarten teacher told my mother that I was very skilled with scissors and glue. When ever the scissors in my house went missing I was always blamed. I currently have a bulliten board in my kitchen where I keep receipes and assorted pictures, and 2 bulletin boards that hang in the inside of my hallway armoire. One is dedicated to my fashion inspiration. Currently I'm once again obsessed with vintage but this time not the 50's but the 30's & 40's. The dark mysterious femme fatal with pale skin, dark hair and red lips. Ladylike Lux.

I have a small obsession with Revlon nail polish. Especially when Shopper's Drug mart is having a sale 2 for $6! My newest additions the the family are "steal her heart" the gun metal Grey colour and "plum seduction" which i picked purposely to coordinate with my 80's fashion victim Halloween costume. My absolute fav and go to colour is the classic "Revlon Red". It's pure prefection is a bottle.

Ok, so your probably like me and haven't really bought anything a Jacob in a couple of years. I was pleasantly surprised when I ventured in there the other weekend. They have some great dresses! I bought a 100% silk fuchsia pink dress for an work event there. The customer service was impeccably, the manager had to call every store in Canada but she ended up finding my size in Nova Scotia and having it shipped for me!

If I hear the words "recesionista", "cheap & cheerful", or "shop your closet" one more time I'm going to scream! I know, i know the worlds in an economic crisis and times are financially uncertain but really when does one draw the line between justifying the expense to pay for a luxury item? There's an interesting section in October's InStyle, "Wow & Forever". It got me thinking about Chanel (like I need an excuse) and it outlined why designer items are priced the way they are. Take Christain Louboutin Lizard Pumps...because of the nature of lizard skin it takes skill and a fine eye to make the shoes. The shape never goes out of style, and allot of science went in to the architecture of the shoe a slight toe platform aids in balance.

That brings us to the quilted iconic Chanel bag. It' take 15 people to carry out the 180 steps to create the bag. The history is so enticing. Coco Chanel first produced it 54 years ago, after admiring the quilted jackets worn by the stable boys at her lover's horse farm. The bag includes an outside pocket for "handy tipping" one inside pocket for beauty products and a hidden zippered compartment when Chanel herself kept her love letters - and a tube slot for lipstick!

Now I would never go as far as tattooing the iconic CC's onto my body, or adorning the CC's on my nails but I would sell my right arm for a bag.....

I've just bookmarked a new blog from The Cross in Yaletown. I love, love, love to visit the store and browse around. It's a wonderful palette of the prettiest, most feminine treasures. So lovely and romantic. They just opened an online shop, although I don't know why you wouldn't just want to go in and shop. Even if a piece of furniture isn't in your budget you can pick up a cheerful little picture frame, or just browse for inspiration. Just when I almost talked myself out of painting my bathroom pink I saw the blog...I'm defiantly going to go for it now!

I was checking out Deluxe Junk yesterday and the first thing I spotted was a really beautiful black vintage fur coat. I tried it on immediately. The fit was perfect. The price good $99. But the practical side of my brain had to kick in. It's fabulous and gorgeous but more of a evening look. Really in the city of drizzle I would be more justified in buying a something water repellent or least with a hood. Sadly no vintage Burberry raincoats were to be found.

I painted 2 of these TV tables watermelon pink with all purpose spray paint...I found the world globe at Value Village

I hate clutter so this is a great way for me to display all my knick nacks, I store candles and CD's/DVD's in the baskets

I'm so happy to have natural light in my bathroom. I used a glass tray (also found at Value Villiage) to house my vintage Avon perfume bottle collection and a place to have everyday items like face wash and perfume handy.

I guess that's the beauty of a blog, you can always come back to it. I want to start blogging again because I find myself more and more needing a creative outlet + i just moved and don't have a TV. Not because I'm too good for TV, I really do love TV and I miss ANTM terribly. It's a financial decision. But I do have room for internet in the budget which will give lots of free time to blog my heart out. I wanted to share a few little decorations around my new apartment. I really had to be creative in decorating and re-use everything I already owned. I re-covered 5 table chairs, and 1 highback occasional chair. I painted TV tables, and re-purposed. There's still lots more to do but i like to keep busy.

I thought I would post a little painting I created for our kitchen. It's open for interpretation. I call it "photosynthesis", it makes me smile.

We've decided since we rent and won't spend money for any real renovations we would just make our apartment as eclectic and fun as possible. Evidently the kitchen is quirky enough to house this painting, and our own little island of Manhattan.

First I would like to thank my friend Adam for the reminder not to forget about my blog. I've been neglectful. Second, for my lame excuse of being to busy with work and school. Not good enough.

It's such a great time of year for dressing. You can lighten and add some colour to your life. And most importantly all those peep toe pumps, dainty sandals, sky high wedges can come out and make an appearance.

I bought a beautiful organic cotton scarf from H&M. I decided to use that as my inspiration for my spring/summer 09 wardrobe. Building from the pretty muted pink, blues and purples I found some candy coloured beads at a fantastic bead shop on Denman Street called Kimdoly. I made two chunky necklaces and a pair of rose bud coral earrings. The light green coloured stone is Howlite Turquoise, and the yellow stone is Candy Jade. The earring are little carved pieces of coral. So much fun to wear!

It seems I'm finding a lot of jewllery I just can't resist. I'm really into pretty post earrings like the old vintage clip on style. On a recent trip to one of my favorite vintage stores in Gastown Woo Vintage I came across this gorgeous clip on earring and brooch set. I have to admit the earrings are a little uncomfortable to wear but apparently you can buy plastic cushions. I also found this great over sized ring in the gold and coral at the Bay. I was surprised to discover the Bay downtown has an estate jewllery counter with tons of amazing vintage and retro jewllery including designers like Dior and Escada. Maybe one day some Chanel will show up!

Is here once again, because after all it's always fashion week somewhere in the world. Running at various locations around Vancouver from March 24th-29th showing Fall/Winter 2009. I'll be lending a hand again this year at Aliqua on Thursday March 26 starting at 7pm at the Centre for Performing Arts 777 Homer. Check out VFW website and Aliqua. I tried on these killer heels the other day at Spring. There pretty hot. In my attempt to budget, I walked away without buying them. I think I need to go back, Vancouver Fashion Week is coming up and I will need hot shoes for the after parties. Also check out a very similar version to Kate's embellished gladiator sandals. I bought these glads last year and wore them to death. I might get the snakeskin pair this year.

So flipping through the H&M spring magazine I spotted the hype:unisex article. So the "boyfriend" or "tomboy" style is not a new emerging trend by any stretch but it's great to see how new young women are embracing the trend and putting their own spin on things. I love Agyness Deyn's pocket square! That's the perfect men's wear touch that any woman can add. I've been lusting after the perfect boyfriend blazer, white button up shirt for awhile. I wish I could go to my boyfriends closet and just borrow it but it's a little too big and I find the woman's version don't have the right feel.

I marched my inner tom boy to H&M and headed straight to the men's section. Where low and behold I found a black blazer for $59 and a button up white shirt for $20. Perfect and ironically cheaper then the women's version. I can borrow from menswear style but I don't have to borrow their clothes...it's all mine.

I highly recommend picking up H&M's Spring 2009 Magazine. It's free. It's a fashion magazine that everyone can read and enjoy. It's not completely "fashiony", and breaks down the spring trends in simple one page spreads. It also has a beautiful editorial spread using all H&M clothing. It also has a great article explaining how colour trends are analyzed and chosen. So not only is it esthetically pleasing but also educational. Nice work H&M. Oh you can read it online here

Ok, this kinda bugs me (i'm not clamming I'm some sorta fashion expert) but people who use "haute couture" to to describe just about anything to do with fashion. Haute couture is luxurious garments produced in editions of one by a handful of fashion houses in Paris. Shown only in Paris, twice a year during haute couture week. Pret-a-porter, or ready-to-wear, is mass-produced design wear, often made in large editions. New designs are traditionally shown twice annually, anywhere in the world.

So yeah, those Rock & Republic jeans are not haute couture.

I'm only hoping that we get them in Canada. Prices apparently will range from $25 to $45...which will probably be about $60 here in Canada...that's if we get them. Well here's my justification for purchasing a $65 Chanel compact. a) It's Chanel. b) It's refillable hence environmentally friendly. c) The refills cost $42 which is comparable with other department store foundations. d) It's a 3 in one so I don't need to buy powder or concealer and finally e) It makes me feel good every morning when I put it on. I received 2 little but fantastic books for my bday. One on the history of handbags properly titled "HANDBAGS, The Power of the Purse" by Anna Johnson and the other on shoes properly titled "SHOES" by Linda O'Keeffe. Both available at Chapters.ca. Not just to be flipped through and ohhhed and ahhhed over you and to sit on your book shelf I'm making a point to read them. I started in on the handbag book, and it's absolutely fascinating. Did you know the that iconic chain strap Chanel bag came about after the war, leather was scarce so Coco whipped the weighted gilt chains out of the hems of her suits and fashioned them into the shoulder straps of her famous quilted 2/1955 bag which is bluntly named after the number of it's birth date: 2/1955. It only gained popularity after Karl Lagerfiled jazzed it up on the 80s. Lagerfield flattened the chain slapped a massive interlocking-Cs logo on the front and worked it in all sizes from a cigarette case to a tote. Oh Karl you're my hero. This particular Chanel bag also happens to be my fantasy hand bag that I will own one day!

My BFF has been wearing sunscreen daily since she was 15. She said that she used to read her moms magazines that touted the daily use of SPF and got scared into it. She uses straight sunscreen like Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Face Sunscreen and layers with other products. Well she's sure glad she got scared today because her skin is amazing. Recently I was asked for my advice on which anti aging aging sun care product to buy for family members in a isolated hot climate in Iraq....and it got me thinking! I would want to recommend something with real sun protection and with all that's out there how do you know what is really going to protect you? Do you purchase straight sunscreen and wear it under a moisturizer? Or is there a product out there that really combines it in one? I currently only rely on the meager SPF 10 in my foundation because I use Clinique moisturizer which doesn't have an SPF and I didn't want to add one more step into my morning routine....silly isn't it?

I did some research and found Olay makes "Total Effects plus SPF 15"...but is SPF 15 enough? I also found that Clinique has a "SuperDefense SPF 25 Age Defense Moisturizer". Which seems to be an all in one. To be safe I honestly would recommend my BFF advice use good old sunscreen with a SPF higher then 15 everyday before you put anything else on your face. Now I'm scared into it and will be SPF'ing everyday. I'm sure they make a lotion that erases years of sun exposure lol!

There's a Payless Shoes right around the corner from my place. It's very hard not to pop in and check it out. I was pleased to see the new spring styles but seriously disappointed at the price points! I thought Payless was a place to buy inexpensive shoes. The Abaete, Lela Rose and Alice and Olivia are all priced around $60! Way too much for Payless Shoes. I did manage to find the good old Fioni pumps on sale...so I picked up 2 pairs. The pink ones aren't on sale yet but for buy one get one half off I might go pick them up.

I wasn't going to let this get me all riled up but I would just like to rant about the woman at the Payless on Granville Street, who while I was trying on the pink pair grabbed the other shoe (there was only 1 pair) and wore it around the store for about 10 min, while browsing around then proceeded to take it upstairs with her. I guess if she's so desperate for Payless shoes she can act that way but it was very rude. BIATCH.

Every once and awhile our friend invites my boyfriend and I to tag along with her down to Bellingham to go shopping. We lovingly refer to this as America day, and we love because it gives us an excuse to eat food that is really bad for us and shop at Target. Target is my all time favorite store. It's so esthetically pleasing, bright, colourful and fun and best of all cheap....even with the conversion. As we wandered through the mall trying on cheap shoes and drinking the super fattening american version of orange julius we inevitability entered a Bath & Body Works. I spent $50 on body lotion...it was buy 2 get one free on the signature lotions AND they now have the really yummy coconutty summery ones which were buy one get one free. It's seriously the best lotion ever...the scent last all day. We also purchased copus amounts of cheap chocolate (and you say mint flavoured 3 musketeers!) and some clothing. I came home with a really great trench coat with a hood for $40 (and the size small fits me!) and my BF bought 2 vintage printed tees for $20. To cap off our adventures in the land of extremly large portions we had a lovely Mexican feast at Mi Mexico for about $10 a person and the portion size enough for three. God bless America.

Even though I'm 30 years old I still love to go to my grandmothers house and root through her jewellery box. Some of my best memories of childhood involved this activity and playing dress up. This is where my love of fashion blossomed from, both my grandmothers are always looking tres chic and fabulous. I was at my grandmother house this weekend and she pulled out a box of necklaces and told me to take my pick! A bunch of them were actually made to my delight and surprise by my great grandmother who has passed on. She also gave me a fantastic snake skin purse that isn't vintage but oh so current! I'm loving the snakeskin prints for spring and have already purchased a belt...now I have a bag! A few pieces need fixing up, but I can't wait to wear the Indian inspired beaded piece!

I'm adding a new regular feature to my blog. Every Friday (ok, don't quote me on that) I will sum up what I think looks like fun to check out around the city.

Live theatre and fresh air Lives Were Around Me is a live roving theatre production. This one man show by David McIntosh takes participants for a jaunt around gastown and the eastside weaving a story of that is deliberately vague and unclear. Ok I kinda wish I was getting hitched so I could check this out...but maybe I still will. It's Vancouver's first "Alternative" Wedding Show cause not everyone wants to get married in July at Brock House. Tixs are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. First 30 couples through the door receive a swag bag. Saturday Jan 17th at Heritage Hall.

I love going for breakfast and this place looks good. Deacon's Corner is a good old fashioned 2 eggs done they way you want, toast, hash browns and sausage kinda place. From the owner's of the popular Cobre this old fashioned diner is named after a diner in Winnipeg that host and owner Tyson Reimer’s grandfather once owned. The state of the economy is on everyone's lips these days, and so is cheap makeup. I'm one of those people who can justify spending $24 on a tube of the latest and greatest shade. I'm a sucker for cute packaging and promises of the perfect complexion. But in this current economic climate most people will be heading to the local drug store to buy beauty products. I thought I would test a few of the products that were recommended on whowhatweardaily.com to really see if they compete with my the higher price brands. First up I tried CoverGirls Lipstain in Wild Berry Wink. It was really fun drawing it on my lips with the marker tip applicator...but it quickly proved to be a little uneven with even the slightest dry spots on my lips soaking up more colour. I found a better, more even application if you mixed it with a little chap stick...then it was the perfect bitten berry look. All in all not bad.
The second product I purchased was Maybelline Dream Mouse Blush in Pink Frosting. I've been using Benetint for 3 years now...only because a small bottle literally lasts you years (see justification for the price!). I apply it with a foundation brush for more of an airbrush look. It's very soft and pretty with a slight shimmer. It's actually really nice paired with Benetint. All in all I'm using it as my daily blush...but I don't think it's going to last me 3 years!

When it come to budgeting for cosmetics I say save the big money for the products that really matter like a good foundation and mascara and skimp on the other stuff. It's really beautiful skin that makes the most impact.

A large part of my quarter life crisis stemmed from the overwhelming state of my closet (or lack of one). I'm lucky I have a spare room that I've turned into a office/closet...the problem being that there is a tiny little closet and I have no organizational furniture. My bestie and I spent an entire day sifting through the last 10 years of clothing and created 4 piles; keep, donate, consign, alter/repair. The consign pile landed in the hands of some very lovely ladies at 2chicksconsignment.com. It was very hard to let it all go but I feel much more organized and ready to tackle the next phase. I'm still in need of a wardrobe to contain what I have left...just trying to find the perfect one that isn't Ikea! All the items pictured are currently up for grabs!

That’s it I’ve decided I’m not giving up on this blog! It’s been way to long, and I have to admit that I’m having a bit of trouble adjusting to a looming birthday that will take me from the carefree days of the 20’s straight into the reality world of my 30’s. It’s scary I know. I’ve stopped writing because I felt that I’ve lost an identity. I can’t write about wearing ripped up tights and sure the hell not going to wear doc martins again. My new age brings about a feeling like I can’t dress like I’m 20 anymore. It’s a tad dis heartening when things that you wore as kids are now becoming trendy. Yikes. So now this brings the question how does a 30 year old dress? What would a person in there 30’s be interested in reading about? So I’m switching gears a bit and adjust to my age identity crisis. Yeah I know age is just a number blah, blah, blah. But one day you do wake up and realize you’re not getting and younger. So bear with me kids as I attempt to age with grace and dignity.

I haven't been so excited for a shop in Yaletown since well never. Raw Canvas (1046 Hamilton) now gives me a good reason to go. Unique to the city this coffee shop/art studio offers delicious treats and a chance to explore your inner artist. It works like this purchase a canvas (small $50, medium $65 or large $80) have it set up on one of the custom designed easels, throw on a smock and pick your paint. All the supplies are well supplied. The owners Paige and Steve are wonderfully friendly and will help you get on your way. Friday nights they have live music (yes that's actual instruments you've been hearing in Yaletown). Just take a gander at the masterpiece my BF and I created. It's magic.

happy boot hunting

The search for a perfect pair of boots to get me through winter 08/09 has started. Officially. Last weekend a went to Aldo and tried on 2 pairs that didn't cut the mustard. Since my budget will only allow for one pair in the $150-250 range I've got to make the right decision. Something multi- functional that I can wear to work. It's a bit daunting. I tried on 3 pairs at browns as well, but for the price they seemed a bit flimsy. I definatly don't want a heel that is wrapped in leather one step in the wrong crack and your boots are crap. The right fit around the calf is key as well. 2 pairs also had buckles which are a huge trend al the the motorcycle boot. Buckles are great but then it's all buckle all the time.

Although these Frye boots make me want to break the budget!!

On a side note I came across a pair of half boots at Payless. I know there not leather and all that jazz band not really a true boot but I'm kinda digging the lace up style. Nine West makes a version that is actually suede, I think I might try them on....if I can find them here in Vancouver. While on the subject of payless - check out the styles from Alice & Olivia...I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we will get them in Vancouver...the Payless on Robson got a few of the Alice and Olivia styles for spring/summer. I can afford to splurge on these and not break my boot budget.

The weird twist is I will be pulling out my favorite boots for the 3rd winter which I purchased on ebay for $20. Vintage Italian leather never goes out of style

I had a chance last night to check out the Generation Next fashion show for BC Fashion Week. In true style I was fashionable very late and had to sneak in after the show started so I ended up getting a seat behind the photo pit hence the not so great photos (i don't think fashion photographer is my strong suit). The premise of Generation Next is to show case 3 local designers chosen by submitting their application to BC Fashion Week then would then be judged based on there collection and a winner chosen that night. Two of Hearts, Joseph & Elizabeth and Red Jade were chosen to show. Red Jade stole the show (and was my pick for winner...she had the best shoes)!

We stuck around and caught the second show Nicole Bridger. She was last years Generation Next winner. Even from the front row my pictures don't do it justice! I loved her show. It was cohesive and coordinated. Beautiful luxurious fabrics, the models looked pretty with soft makeup and un fussy hair. It made me want to see more shows, dam i should have got off my duff and seen more!

I recently was flipping through the Rexall drugstore flyer in the Westender and came across a sale add for Body America organic skincare products. Always a sucker for cute packaging and new products I decided that i needed to check it out. I ended up buying the toast to the coast moisturizing body butter. It's a think and creamy body lotion that smells a little sweet but not vanilla cupcake sweet. The other flavors were just as yummy and with catchy names too. Good to know the line is organic and made in Canada, and for the $12.99 sale price it's worth a little indulgence.

I recently checkout Blubird the newest edition to Alberni street between Burrard and Bute. Housed beside the ever present Tiffany's, Betsey Johnson and recent re-opened M0851 and across the street from Hermes and Agent Provocateur. It's right at home in the "luxury" retail end of things. It's another store other then Holt's where you can buy Marc by Marc Jacobs. They carry C&C Skye jewellery which I haven't seen anywhere else in the city. A good shop to try to track down something you've seen on a celebrity and just have to have....but it's not cheap. I did like the florescent pashmina's worn by the staff for $30...that I can afford.

Ahhhh it's that time of year once again, the days get a bit shorter, the air crisper, and the September Vogue hits the shelf all 798 glossy glorious pages. Being the bargain shopper I am I picked my copy up at Costco for %25 of the cover price $4.40 to be exact. I haven't delved in yet but I did take notice of Keira Knightley's unsightly horrible hair. It looks like she's been attacked by a weed wacker or it's been horribly photoshopped. Her hair in her editorial is much prettier her looks go in between 1940's starlet and futuristic up do's. Maybe it was meant to mimic her outfit a little jumbled and choppy?

If you've had your eye on a Banana Republic trench coat buy it now or forever hold your peace. BR is having a 30th anniversary sale (ends Aug 27th) and selected items are 30% this includes all jewellery which is why I treated myself to a sparkly little cubic zirconia pave band ring. It's half the size of the one pictured. I love that the stones go all the way around. I'm a hand talker and so it will sparkle from all angles. So what if it's not the real deal. The nice thing about BR jewellery is that in most cases they use sterling silver and real semi precious stones. So my ring won't tarnish and turn my hand green. I really hope the stones don't fall out. The sales lady mentioned that I should coat it in clear nail polish to make sure the stones don't fall out....not sure about that!

It's no secret that my dream engagement ring is the Tiffany shared-setting band ring with a full circle of round brilliant diamonds...I know it's technically a wedding band but I love it. This little sparkler will tide me over until then.

We took a long journey in the hot sun yesterday afternoon but it was well worth the intense heat combined with stifling public transit. The SPCA thrift store on West Broadway is a little hidden treasure chest full of loot. Forget about over priced consignment or vintage stores if you can stand a little disorganization and mess it's a virtual gold mine of stuff. It was a particularly great day because as my boyfriend and I were digging through the sunglass drawer he stumbled upon one glass case that wasn't empty and what was inside? Pristine vintage aviator Ray Ban sunglasses the real deal! I also dug up 5 other pairs of awesome vintage shades. The bronze looking metal ones are dated 78' and are older then me! The crazy purple ones are "made in France". I took my treasures to the check out to see how much...after the (very generous and nice) sales fellow looked over each pair plus 2 unique wooden bowls I found he popped out with the grand total of $8 bucks. Yes, $8 bucks!! I also purchased a practically new Calvin Klein circle skirt, and funky tie dyed scarf at the clothing store for $8. We almost thought are buying luck had run out but as you can see by the pictures we found the digital camera we wanted on sale at Future Shop as well!! It was a lucky day.

I like to know what's going on in the city, what's the point of paying the cost of living to live here if you don't go out and participate? During Vancouver Fashion Week a representative from Nightlife Montreal was handing out the magazine and signing people up and viola your on a distribution list. I was surprised to see a very comprehensive list of concerts and a category called "clubbin", complete with dates, times and $$price and a good little blurb on the band or DJ. They also list theatre, art, and fashion although not quite as thorough as the concert section. All in all it's a good thing to have a scroll through and see if anything gives you the motivation to get out of the house and socialize plus you will impress people by your vast knowledge of the music scene in Vancouver bonus.

I'm starting a new job on Monday (yea me) and can no longer wear jeans to work. It's not a super corporate environment but it's "business casual". It's got me concerned because for the last 4 years I've pretty much had clothing freedom in all aspects of my life. I absolutely refuse to wear boring black dress pants because I have no other choice. I just won't buy something because I can wear it to work I have to like it as well. After exhausting my stomping grounds of downtown I decided to venture to Metrotown to see what could be found. I had a mental list; skirt, pants, cardigan...how hard could that be? Ummm extremly. Everything was cheap looking and boring! I decided I would have to try something new so I wandered into Mexx. I don't often shop there but I was getting desperate. I'm so happy I did because I hit a a fantastic sale and picked up 2 skirts which I can mix and match in a neutral grey/brown colour both with interesting design details. I wanted to take pictures but my digital camera is on the fritz. Instead I've put together a little montage of my new work look. I think a skirt, cute blouse and cardigan is going to be my new uniform. I still haven't found THE PANTS but I did pick up a navy blue boyfriend cardigan from Zara.

So yes berry stained lips are all the rage for fall. Well pretty much every fall the dark lip comes back around. I just received my MAC postcard in the mail covered with cherry's and chocolate, "the cult of cherry" launches in early August. I've never been able to perfect the berry cherry stained lip, I've tried the stains Benetint, Revlon bitten, and countless other lipsticks and glosses but nothing seems to look as good on me. I particularly like Amanda Peet's makeup look pictured above, the red stained lip with the subtle blue eyeliner really works for the late summer and early fall.

I also think Scarlett has it right here with the coral lips which is a little easier to get right then a red lip.

I signed up for Polyvore a long time ago, but never really got into it until my sassy cousin and beyondblonde writer showed me her account (yes sassy). I'm slightly addicted and maybe a little crazy. But it's so fun. I was inspired by the new Batman movie....I'm not sure if there is a female vixen in the series but if so this is what she would wear.

I also created this ensemble after lusting after the Chanel glasses at Holts today and mindlessly rummaging around the city trying to find pants which I like to refer to as pantaloons. I spied a pair at H&M while back but never bought them and now their sold out. It will be interesting to see if my body shape can pull off the look. I think with a high enough heel it might work.

umbrellas day in the sun

While strolling around this city this not so fine summer I've made a few observations regarding summer fashion choices. I've seen a huge increase in the number of sun umbrellas or parasols being toted around when the sun finally decides to shine. Lovely porcelain skinned ladies shading their skin and demonstrating that pale really is the new tan. In this day and age of sun scare or care it's a practical way of blocking those mean UV rays. I particularly like the paper Asian variety that can be found in stores in China town....although for optimal protection a sun umbrella specially coated with a UV blocker is recommended.

I know that black tights worn with jean cut offs shorts (a la Lindsay Lohan) was a trend we saw last fall, but does this look translate to the warm summer months? I can understand maybe on the colder rainy days we've been experiencing here but when the sun is out in full force it seems a little much. Ladies just aren't willing to give up their tights quite yet.

I also wanted to comment on the subject of beach attire (bikinis, shirtless men, beach cover ups, sarongs) and where it's appropriate off the beach. I live very close to major beach destination in the city. I believe there is an invisible boarder. If your on the sidewalk off the beach, or you can no longer see the ocean please cover up, and wearing a bikini to eat at a restaurant a block away is not appropriate. Yes I've seen it.

My bf and I made an observation while strolling around the seawall the other day. The old dare I say "vintage" 10 speed bikes are now replacing the beach cruiser in popularity among the young and hip. Maybe this has been cool for awhile now? I solely rely on my feet and public transport to get around the city. The Sartorialist has been snapping pictures of lovely fashionable people young and old on bikes for ages, it's been a favorite subject for many a street style photographers. There's a whole fashion blogging community based around bikes and the people who ride them. Copenhagen Cycle Chic, Girls and Bicycles (Edmonton), London Cycle Chic, Montreal Cykler just to name a few. There's just something so classic and cool about a style savvy person riding a bike. I've been thinking lately of getting my bike out from the depths of our building storage and pumping up the tires....but I'm afraid I won't look very hip riding a mountain bike or maybe I'll just start a new trend? The mountain bike is the new 10 speed? I guess it doesn't really matter what bike you ride it's the personal style you bring when riding it.

Stop reading now if you've been living under a rock and haven't seen the movie yet. Seriously who but Carrie Bradshaw wears pearls to bed? I loved the chunky layers of necklaces, seriously studded waist belts and amazing handbags. You might not be able to afford the designer duds, but with a little work you can find vintage and second hand jewellery to pull off the looks. There's no secret to second had you just have to look. Flea markets, garage sales, ebay, etsy, thrift stores, consignment......

I'm sorry to disappoint but i have no pictures to show you from the H&M opening. The free flowing booze in hand along with piles of cheap clothing and insane craziness of it all left me unable to snap any photo's. I wanted to stay and smooze but i really just needed to get out. I have to admit those PR wizzies at H&M know how to plan an opener. I successfully managed to get what i needed for my trip. Instead I bring you a picture of my cat Olive who we've discovered as a penchant for pizza boxes and a shot of me. My boyfriend saw my outfit and asked if I wanted a picture but could not wait until i had finished brushing my teeth. Thanks sweets thanks.

H&M Opening Party!

Cheeky i know. Unfortunately the opening party is for invites only. I really tried to get more invites for anyone out there who reads my blog but the PR lady was having none of it (seriously nice about it though). I think I got one because I subscribe to the quarterly magazine...you can subscribe by filling out one of the subscriptions cards in store. I also subscribe to the podcasts oh and you can ad them as a fan on facebook.

Not to worry I will take lots of party pictures + the first 250 people in line tomorrow for the noon opening (May 22) will receive a $10-$200 gift card plus a free gift with purchase.

I think I will be able to find those last few vacation pieces before my holiday and I really want to buy some city shorts for my BF.

pale is the new tan

To tan or not to tan? It's nice to see that the beauty and fashion industry is also picturing pale skin in summer advertisements. It's honestly a controversy that I struggle with. I love the sun and love to tan but also know the deep harmful effects it will have on me as I age. Is there any in between? Yes I know there's the faux tan thing but it's just not the same as the real thing. There are so many sunless products out there to obtain it but it can all get a bit confusing. I guess it just comes down to moderation and personal preference. I think both look beautiful.

I'm heading off for a sunny vacation! I'm very excited to jump start the summer with some real sun action. I love putting together a vacation wardrobe. It's a fashion challenge. First on the agenda to consider where your going and what you will need to wear. This vacation will consist of lots of poolside hour time, a few outdoor activities and some night out dressy occasions. The key is to maximize the most amount of outfits out of a smallest amount of pieces. I don't want to fall victim to over packing. I came across this picture in a mag (sincere apologies for my atrocious photoshop skills...I'm still learning!). Siena Miller is the queen bee of easy breezy summer looks and this one is chic and stylish and makes for great fash-inspiration.

I already have a straw fedora hat (try the mens section of any department store). I found a version with a wider brim at Urban Outfitters as pictured. I will be wearing my St. Christopher's gold pendant on a long chain which I got for a gift. St. Christopher is the patron saint of travel and a good luck charm for me. The nice thing about this inspiration outfit is it's fairly basic so I'll I can add layers of bangles or big gold hoop earrings. I like to buy local jewellery as souvenirs. I'll be on the look out for ethnic seed beaded pieces, but you don't have to travel to far away places to get the souvenirs check out etsy.com for handmade jewellery. I found these great pieces pictured at Hokaiye's Shop. That brings me to the bathing suit oh joys. This could be a bathing suit or a dress but for the sake of my vacation it's a one piece layered over shorts. The one piece cut out is a hot look this summer. The trick is to find one with modern cuts. Low in the bust with the bottoms cut lower in the hips. I found a couple of versions at Urban Outfitters. And finally to top off the summer look a straw tote to hold your sunscreen, water, camera and VISA card. Ask your glama if she has a vintage one you can borrow or check out flea markets and ebay. The vintage ones are so much cuter. Joe Fresh over a Superstore re made a vintage version if you can't find the real deal. In the spirt of Sienna I've pictured a one from British online shop asos which ships to Canada.

I'll also make sure to pack walking sandals, wedges, 2 or 3 summer dresses, cut offs, shorts, sarong (can also be converted to a head scarf), light jacket, bikini, tank tops, and a breezy blouse that can be used as a bathing suit cover up. Ahhhhhh sunshine here I come!

Beyond Robson - Yes the fashion section is not updated as much as one would like but they finally have the events sections up and running. You can add events to your facebook which basically now acts as a social calendar. Who doesn't love the reminders? I for one do. As well as adding an event to your facebook you can link to the website, flyer and add to your very own Beyond Robson Calendar. I added this neato event Hot One Inch Action check it out!

Fashion High - I'm adding this one to my blog roll. As well as being a great resource for the Vancouver fashion industry it also has a very extensive jammed packed events section. Dam how could I miss Curl Up and Dye?

I recently headed for the border for some cheap American shopping fun. I wasn't really sure what to expect as I haven't really ever been discount boarder shopping before (tragedy yes I know). I was half expecting not to find a thing as when I set out to shop I usually don't find what I'm looking for. I'm a very focused shopper who knows what she wants. We got a late start to the day and landed at the North Gate Mall about 1pm. We waded through the cheap stores, Wet Seal, Papaya, and Hollister. I manged to pick up a really cute satin full skirt for $20, and a $10 of cute cork wedges. We meandered through Nordstrom's and I spotted the Marc Jacob Sorbet Splash perfume I've been lusting after for $25 cheaper then in Vancouver! I could not resist. DSW shoes was a disappointment...not enough summer stock. Our final destination as time was running out was Target. I'm now a huge fan. I packed our cart with pieces from the affordable Mossimo line as well as the in store brand GO International. I ended up with a patterned satin shift dress, another circle skirt and a breezy summer top oh and the new Madonna CD all for under $100! I'm going to find it very hard to buy luxury goods here now that I know it's so much cheaper only hour and half away, but I was happy to be back to less urban sprawl and more independent mom and pop shops, there's only so much "bigger is better" one Canadian girl can handle.

My girlfriend and I attended the Gastown Mavi store opening last night. We needed a cocktail to start the evening of schmoozing which may or may not have been the best plan of action. In true Mavi party style the comp wine was free flowing and the trays of nibbles were being passed. Friends shouldn't let friends drink and shop that's just good sense. Blo was on hand demonstrating that every woman deserves a happy ending too. Because we both have impeccable good taste we tried on the the wide leg "Cora" jeans. Rumor has it (we had a very good source) that the "Cora" is named after the fabulous party planner ummm Cora. I tried on the light summer wash, and my pal tried on the dark wash. We both loved them. We also both purchased a super adorable butterfly summer dress in navy blue with a ruffle hem detail. Decided that with a waist belt this is going to be an instant summer staple. Of course the swag bags we're not disappointing. Filled with coupons, M by Mariah Carry perfume sample that came with a full size lip gloss that I actually really do like...a Mavi tank top, mascara, full size OPI nail polish and other bits of goodness.

As you know my favorite thrift store haunt is the Wildlife Thrift store on Granville. Yesterday I found a vintage Merimekko skirt for $5! I'm having a difficult time pin pointing the date of the skirt as they used a lot of black and white Op-art inspired prints in the 1960's. It's abvioulsy a USA import as the fabric tag is in English although faded so I can't read it. It has the standout signature bold print in black and white, with a interesting tag line around the hem that reads "Marimekko OY 1959 Suomi-Finland 100% Co". It needs a good cleaning but a super cute piece of clothing history.

Marimekko Corporation is a leading Finnish textile and clothing design company that was established in 1951. The company designs, manufactures and markets high-quality clothing, interior decoration textiles, bags and other accessories under the Marimekko brand, both in Finland and abroad. Marimekko as a fashion brand was made famous by Jacqueline Kennedy in the 1960's. It fell out of fashion in the 80's and early 90's as it went through some turbulent financial woes.

Marimekko has recently come back into favour as it has collaborated with H&M to launch an exciting spring and summer line it stores now. Can't wait to sport my vintage Marimekko. It's been fun researching this piece!
