turning over a new leaf

I've decided to combine my two passions in life - philanthropy which makes up my day job with fashion which my day job pays for! I've combined it neatly and tied it with a pretty bow into my new blog

http://partywithpurpose.blogspot.com/

It's a current listing off all the great and fantastic events and ideas in benefit of non-profits. Every once and while fashion will meet philanthropy and you betcha I'll be bloggin about it!

two birds one stone

I guess being short has it's advantages. Take this peasant skirt from Club Monacos "urban bohemian" line. It can be worn as a high waisted skirt, low slung skirt, or as a dress....but only if your short! I thought it was worth the purchase price + thanks to my student status 20% off with a student card!

open to interpretation

I thought I would post a little painting I created for our kitchen. It's open for interpretation. I call it "photosynthesis", it makes me smile.

We've decided since we rent and won't spend money for any real renovations we would just make our apartment as eclectic and fun as possible. Evidently the kitchen is quirky enough to house this painting, and our own little island of Manhattan.

so much fashion so little time

First I would like to thank my friend Adam for the reminder not to forget about my blog. I've been neglectful. Second, for my lame excuse of being to busy with work and school. Not good enough.

It's such a great time of year for dressing. You can lighten and add some colour to your life. And most importantly all those peep toe pumps, dainty sandals, sky high wedges can come out and make an appearance.

I bought a beautiful organic cotton scarf from H&M. I decided to use that as my inspiration for my spring/summer 09 wardrobe. Building from the pretty muted pink, blues and purples I found some candy coloured beads at a fantastic bead shop on Denman Street called Kimdoly. I made two chunky necklaces and a pair of rose bud coral earrings. The light green coloured stone is Howlite Turquoise, and the yellow stone is Candy Jade. The earring are little carved pieces of coral. So much fun to wear!

It seems I'm finding a lot of jewllery I just can't resist. I'm really into pretty post earrings like the old vintage clip on style. On a recent trip to one of my favorite vintage stores in Gastown Woo Vintage I came across this gorgeous clip on earring and brooch set. I have to admit the earrings are a little uncomfortable to wear but apparently you can buy plastic cushions. I also found this great over sized ring in the gold and coral at the Bay. I was surprised to discover the Bay downtown has an estate jewllery counter with tons of amazing vintage and retro jewllery including designers like Dior and Escada. Maybe one day some Chanel will show up!

vancouver fashion week

Is here once again, because after all it's always fashion week somewhere in the world. Running at various locations around Vancouver from March 24th-29th showing Fall/Winter 2009. I'll be lending a hand again this year at Aliqua on Thursday March 26 starting at 7pm at the Centre for Performing Arts 777 Homer. Check out VFW website and Aliqua. I'm not really sure what I'm in for but it will be an interesting mix of fashion, music, and hair competitions! I will also be eco friendly design show on Friday. It's always a crazy manic time, but it's great to help out and meet new fashion friends and check out what's happening in fashion in Vancouver! If you want a deal on tickets I've got the inside scoop click here.

spring has sprung

I tried on these killer heels the other day at Spring. There pretty hot. In my attempt to budget, I walked away without buying them. I think I need to go back, Vancouver Fashion Week is coming up and I will need hot shoes for the after parties. Also check out a very similar version to Kate's embellished gladiator sandals. I bought these glads last year and wore them to death. I might get the snakeskin pair this year.

ugly shoe alert

Please, please don't disgrace your feet by wearing these shoes. They are hideous. I don't understand the loafer trend...I hated them in the 90's...18 years later there still ugly.

sunday celebrities

My very good friend passes me down all her fashion magazines, and in turn pass them along. We kinda have a magazine sharing club. I'm pretty happy that she shares my obsession with Life & Style. Juicy celebrity gossip mixed with fashion. So in honour of Sunday and Life & Style here are celebrity inspired posts.

Oh my Fergie & Posh with the same Valentino handbag only a they could afford or wear.

I really like the colour combo in this casual look sported by the always fresh Kate Bosworth. Cute.

thanks forever21

Thanks for forever21 for providing Canada with knock off Alexander Wang shoes. Now for $41.80 CAD every hip chic on the block can strut her stuff in some kick ass shoes.

manswer

So flipping through the H&M spring magazine I spotted the hype:unisex article. So the "boyfriend" or "tomboy" style is not a new emerging trend by any stretch but it's great to see how new young women are embracing the trend and putting their own spin on things. I love Agyness Deyn's pocket square! That's the perfect men's wear touch that any woman can add. I've been lusting after the perfect boyfriend blazer, white button up shirt for awhile. I wish I could go to my boyfriends closet and just borrow it but it's a little too big and I find the woman's version don't have the right feel.

I marched my inner tom boy to H&M and headed straight to the men's section. Where low and behold I found a black blazer for $59 and a button up white shirt for $20. Perfect and ironically cheaper then the women's version. I can borrow from menswear style but I don't have to borrow their clothes...it's all mine.
